Eugenia Koleza is Professor of Mathematics Education at the Department of Primary Education, University of Patras, Greece, since 2009. She has graduated from the Department of Mathematics, University of Athens and has acquired her PhD from the IREM of the University Louis Pasteur Strasbourg, France.  

She is member of the International Scientific Committee of the “International Journal for Mathematics in Education” and of the journal "Euclides γ” both of the Hellenic Mathematical Society. She is one of the Editors of the journal Critical Science & Education, published by NIssos Pbl. Athens and Vice-President of the Hellenic Society of History, Philosophy and Didactics of the Sciences. She is also Editor of the Book Series: Epistemology and Didactics of Mathematics and Natural Sciences «Leader Books», Athens. She is the author of four textbooks on Mathematics Education that have been recommended as basic reading in the Departments of Education in Greece and Cyprus. She is director of the "Laboratory of Research in Mathematics Teaching" in the Department of Primary Education. Τhe Laboratory acts as a link between University and in service teachers, involving them in research projects and research seminars and through the creation of communities of practice. The aim of these communities of practice is the professional development of pre- and in service teachers.

Her main Research Interest is Learning Mathematics by Design: Curriculum and Assessment, and the Investigation of Psychological and Sociocultural parameters in mathematical teaching and learning.

Current semester: Sabbatical at University of Modena-Reggio Emilia, Italy.
