Curricular, Pedagogical and Didactic Questions about Participative Citizenship in Secondary Schools: A comparison of two European countries. Τύπος : Research Project: FINAL REPORT Συγγραφείς: Pagoni, M, Karakatsani, D, Stamelos, G, Etienne, R & J-A Spinthourakis Στο: The CiCea Archives Χρονολογία έκδοσης: 2010 Δημοσιεύτηκε: Cicea.eu Full text:CiCea Grant Award FINAL REPORT.30.04.2010.pdf Εκδοτικός οίκος: Children\\\\\\\'s Identity and Citizenship European Association Επιστημονικός Υπεύθυνος: Pagoni, M, Περίληψη: The objective of this project was to actualize an exploratory research study on students’ participation in school life and its role with regard to students’ citizenship education. Research was centred on the first part of secondary school (lower secondary school) for two reasons: firstly, as a point of transition between primary school and upper secondary school, it is important for students’ socialization at the secondary school level; secondly, there is very little research on students’ participation in lower secondary school, as is documented by the paucity of information found in the search field. The project included a comparison between two European countries, France and Greece. The comparison between these two countries was not a goal in itself but aims to introduce a theoretical and methodological reflection on cultural, political and educational factors that influence the effectiveness of \"participatory democracy\" in lower secondary schools.

Including diversity and specifically multiculturalism is important as teachers need to work success fully with diverse learners at the ideological level, practical level, political level and methodological level. This paper examines how Greek Master’s degree candidates taking a Multicultural Education course understand the diversity around him and how it influences identity and citizenship. A description of the course, student activities and student-professor interaction is presented. The paper also includes an excerpt from a student’s reflective journal and general observations from the analysis on the development of their knowledge, skills and awareness of diversity. From the analysis we note that an opportunity for focused, organized and active participation and reflection can positively influence the multicultural awareness of post graduate education students.

Our intention was to both examine our own flexibility with respect to using an innovative approach to assessment as well as by doing so to make assessment more meaningful and allow students the opportunity discuss to adapt. Multiculturalism, diversity and the need for tolerance and Greek kindergarten teachers Συγγραφείς: JA Spinthourakis Στο: Problemy Wczesnej Edukacji [Problems of Early Education] [a Polish Journal] 1/2(5-6). Χρονολογία έκδοσης: 2007 Full text:Poland 2007c FINAL with citation.pdf Περίληψη: As prime socializers of the young, teachers are particularly challenged by the expansion of multicultural diversity in Europe. Helping teachers deal with diversity and tolerance lies in an exploration of their concerns about teaching in multicultural settings. Based on this, the current study aimed at analyzing the problems Greek kindergarten teachers’ encounter in teaching multicultural classes. The content analysis of the written texts of twenty-two Greek kindergarten teachers revealed six thematic categories of problems in working with children from diverse cultural environments. This paper addresses the issue of multiculturalism, diversity and tolerance and kindergarten teacher practices. This paper contributes to the ongoing discussion about multiculturalism, diversity and tolerance and how teachers regard these from the perspective of their teaching practice.
